Nalu Builds was founded with a simple vision: to create beautifully handcrafted furniture and functional art from sustainably sourced Hawaiʻi Island hardwoods that might otherwise become green waste. By reclaiming and repurposing these exceptional local materials, we transform them into timeless pieces designed to be enjoyed for generations.

Our mission is rooted in both craftsmanship and stewardship. Hawaiʻi is home to an abundance of remarkable hardwood species, and we believe these resources deserve a second life beyond the landfill. Every piece we create celebrates the natural beauty, character, and uniqueness of the islands while honoring a commitment to sustainability.

Co-founder and Lead Designer Kevin Coons draws inspiration from the tropical furnishings of his childhood in Hawaiʻi and a lifelong appreciation for mid-century modern design. His vision blends clean contemporary lines with the warmth and organic beauty of island materials, creating a signature tropical-modern aesthetic that has become increasingly sought after throughout Hawaiʻi and beyond.

Behind every Nalu Builds creation is a talented team of artisans, designers, and craftspeople dedicated to exceptional quality. Alongside co-founders Rebecca and Taylor Coons and Kent Indie, the team includes designer Jonathon Suddler, builders Louis Silva-Sampaio, and David Wong; and Keith Brooks, who leads our growing custom upholstery department, expanding the possibilities for truly one-of-a-kind furniture and interiors.
